6C Miss Chalmers

Hello 6C! Welcome to your new class page. Isn't it fancy? Here you can find out what we're learning about this term in all your subjects. You can also use the links provided to access helpful websites for Maths and English.

English

'Tlot Tlot, Tlot Tlot' On your horses Year 6, we will be beginning the Spring Term by racing into our Narrative Poetry Unit and learning all about The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. You will work in groups to demonstrate your performance skills by acting, reading, creating a musical piece, or, if you're feeling extra ambitious, incorporating everything together to show your representation of the poem. You will finish the topic by writing a detailed diary entry as the jealous and furious Tim the Ostler.

In non-fiction you will be exploring biographical texts and  non-chronological reports - you will learn the features involved in these texts so you can create your own!

Maths

Place value, x and ÷ including decimals, use of + - x ÷ to solve ‘real life’ problems including money, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion, handling data, shape and space as well as co-ordinates, working out the perimeter and area of a shape, measures including conversion of one unit to another, properties, pattern and sequences in numbers. Please brush up on your times tables - the quicker you can recall them, the more efficient you will be at using them to solving problems!

Science

This term you will be exploring The Heart and Lungs. Get ready for lots of fun facts, active learning as you become the respiratory system, and investigating changes in heart rate through exercise. We will end the unit by investigating healthy eating, and finding out what can be harmful to our bodies.

R.E

Christmas

This term you will explore Art work from the famous He Qi, that focuses on both gospel accounts of The Birth of Jesus. You will have lots of opportunity to explore the bible and brush up on your bible referencing skills, as we explore and discuss key similarities and differences between both accounts. You will end the unit by reporting on the event in the style of a Newspaper Report.

Followers of Christ. What is God calling you to do in life? In this unit you will explore the lives of the disciples, and understand what God called them to do. How inspiring! And what a great way to prepare for your confirmation.
