We have lots of exciting learning for you this half term.
Here is a summary:
We will be learning about Creation and Forgiveness. We will also be looking at the value and virtues of eloquent and truthful. These will be explored in our lessons and in collective worship. We will pray together in class and celebrate Mass together in church. Our One World Liturgy will be celebrated on 14th October in church. You are most welcome to join us.
The children have been learning about labels, lists and captions and when and how to use them. We will also look at repetitive stories. We will have lots of fun when we act them out in class and write about them. We will have go at writing our own part of a repetitive story as well as sharing a variety of books by different authors.
We will be learning about place value of numbers: comparing numbers, ordering numbers, reading and writing numbers, counting in 1s, 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s, counting forwards and back. We will continue your learning on 2D shapes.
During this academic year, in each term the children will be learning about the changing environment and weather, including making their own weather station and observing the differences in nature across the four seasons. They will also have the opportunity to learn about animals including humans, classifying them by diet, features and habitat.
Golden Thread Learning
We will be exploring the ways that we cause harm to our planet. In particular, we will be learning about rubbish. We will explore how to reduce waste, protect our environment and make a greener planet for us and future gnereations.
Art and design
We shall be exploring pattern, texture and tone using lots of different kinds of art resources. You will love it! We will recycle materials to make brilliant pieces of artwork. Some of your work will be displayed in our school art gallery!
Do you know how to keep safe online? We will be learning how to do this and much more.
How exciting! We will be learning how to play the Glockenspiel! It will be so much fun. We will learn to play great songs together and have 'wavy time'!
We will be improving our throwing and catching skills using beanbags, balls and foam javelins. You will learn to challenge yourself and to keep trying if you don't succeed at first.
We will be learning to understand and manage our feelings.
Throughout the year, the children in Year One will participate in Forest School for 6 weeks. They will visit Bills Wood and have the opportunity to hunt for mini-beasts, make necklaces and collages from natural materials, create mud sculptures and build bug homes and shelters. They will even have the chance to toast marshmallows on a campfire!
This will be sent home every Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday in the plastic zip wallet. Remember to complete your child's reading record book weekly.
