Easter: In this unit the children study the story of Easter from the perspective of Thomas. The work contained in this unit will require them to think about reasons why Thomas did not believe in the Resurrection of Christ at first and why people today believe that Jesus is risen from the dead. Children will also learn about Easter and the promise of eternal life. They will be introduced to some associations with Baptism and the celebration of a Christian funeral.

Pentecost: In this unit the children will learn about two stories from the New Testament about the coming of the Holy Spirit. Through their study of the Sacrament of Confirmation they will learn about the Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit and how they are important in the lives of Christians.

Electricity. Children will be taught to

• associate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit
• compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches
• use recognised symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.

Art

Digital Photography:

• Explain how a new image can be created using a combination of other images. Understand what photomontage is and recognise how artists use photographs. Use recording devices and available software with confidence. Demonstrate a confident understanding of Edward Weston’s style through their artistic choices. Use editing software to change their image, reflecting an artist’s style. Choose a suitable painting and suggest appropriate ways to recreate it photographically with props.
• Set up a composition and think about a space that will provide good lighting levels. Take a portrait that is focused and appropriately framed.
• Draw an accurately measured grid, with some support, understanding how it can support them with their drawing.

French

Planning a French Holiday (en vacances)

• Remember the countries in the world in French. Use a writing model to create a complex sentence. Begin to understand the present and future tense of ‘aller’ in French. Identify the present and future tenses in reading and listening. Label images of clothing correctly. Speak in sentences and write a paragraph. Recognise familiar words and cognates.

• Find a suitable recipe for their course. Record the relevant ingredients and equipment needed. Follow a recipe, including using the correct quantities of each ingredient. Write a recipe, explaining the process taken. Explain where certain key foods come from before they appear on the supermarket shelf.

• Explain how to record sounds and add in sound effects over the top. Produce a simple radio play with some special effects and simple edits which demonstrate an understanding of how to use the software.

Created to Love Others explores the individual’s relationship with others. Building on the understanding that we have been created out of love and for love, this module explores how we take this calling into our family, friendships and relationships, and teaches strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe.
