Dear Parents, Guardians

I'm Mrs Sue Lloyd the Family Support Worker (FSW) at Our Lady of the Wayside School.  I was previously employed at Our Lady of the Wayside School for a number of years as a Teaching and Learning Support Assistant.  Through, progression, I was subsequently promoted to the position of Family Support Worker and form part of the Designated Safeguarding team. 

My role involves supporting families throughout their child's time at Our Lady of the Wayside School.  The different aspects to my role include:

• Listening to and offering suggestions and advice for individuals and families on behaviour management, boundaries, routines, school attendance and punctuality, online-safety, healthy eating to name a few. I can also refer and signpost to other services available within the local area.
• Working with and supporting families during key school transition periods, including newcomers and those moving on to secondary school.
• Working with our Special Educational Needs team, with a particular focus on supporting families.
• Supporting our Pastoral Team which is coordinated by Mrs Ashcroft. As part of this team we can support children on a 1:1 basis through listening, understanding and supporting e.g. anger management and control, development of pupil self-esteem and confidence, friendship issues, bullying including social networking and family issues, e.g. bereavement, new baby in the family, parent’s separation/divorce.

To build stronger links between the parents and the school we have a programme of regular coffee mornings and parent support groups.  If you have any suggestions, or just need to chat to me, please feel free to come and see me.  I have an open door policy so you can come and see me without an appointment on Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 9.30am. I am out at the front of school most mornings between 8:30am and 9:00am, you can’t miss me in my lovely high visibility yellow jacket!
